Can I use Skin So Soft to Repel Mosquitoes?

Is Skin So Soft Bath Oil a Mosquito Repellent?

One of the most frequent questions I’m asked as an Avon Lady is if our Skin So Soft Products can be used to repel mosquitoes. My short answer, I wouldn’t.

While people have been saying that Skin So Soft Bath Oil repels mosquitoes ever since it was introduced in 1961 it is not intended as an insect repellent and it is not FDA approved to be sold as an insect repellent.

I know you may be asking, “but Chris, don’t you ever use products for things they weren’t intended for?”, and I do. I even use the bath oil for things that have nothing to do with softening my skin. But when it comes to bugs I prefer something with a bit more consistency behind it, and as many people as I know who find Skin So Soft effective at keeping them bite free, there are just as many who ended up a mosquito buffet while using it.

Mosquito bites are not just something you want to avoid because the bites can be a bit itchy. Mosquitoes can carry serious diseases like West Nile and Zika. Depending on where you spend time outdoors you may also encounter other disease carrying insects, like deer ticks that can carry Lyme Disease. Because of this I would not want to take a chance on anecdotal evidence when there are options that are proven more reliably effective.

Our Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus products not only protect against mosquitoes and ticks, they also protect from bugs that can just ruin your fun time outdoors like no seeums, black flies, sand flies, gnats and biting midges.

So my recommendation is to leave the bath oil for shower time and grab a bottle of Bug Guard (or the super handy wipes) before heading outdoors.
